How do I pray on an airplane in Maliki fiqh?

First option: Strive to pray on the ground rather than in the air, even if it means combining the prayers according to the rules of combining in the madhab.

Second option: Ask permission from the stewards to pray in the back and face the qibla as best as you can. Khalil says, “(it is necessary) as long as one is safe (and able)…to face the qibla.”

Third option: Stand in front of your seat and do the ruku’ and sujud sitting, even if not facing the qibla. Khalil says, “It is necessary in a fard prayer to stand except if it causes hardship.” Being disallowed from standing in the aisles of the plane, as well as turbulence, are both hardships.

Fourth option: Pray the entire prayer sitting, relying on the above dispensation of hardship mentioned in Khalil.

Ruku’ & Sujud: When praying sitting, bow your slightly for ruku’ and more for sujud.
